I was reading back, and noticed that on volume 15, both Sakata (p194) and Cherry (p211), and also Reika and Kuruno later on vol. 16 p51 and 54, are struck by Izumi's sword, with no ill effects. This is particularly visible on vol.16 p55.
On the first two cases, the action changed to other confrontations, but only when it returned to them did Sakata's suit broke. The fight was already interrupted, and moved onto vol. 16 when Cherry's suit also broke down - this suggests that the suits, as the guns, have a delay.
The final cases here were Reika's suit, which was still operational when she ran off with Tae, and Kurono..
I had also noticed on another occasion that Izumi was fighting vamps, and his clothes were cut down to the suit underneath, but back then I didn't RP here, and forgot all about it.

I brought this to your attention because: a) it says otherwise on Gantz mechanics' sword thread, and b) I've read differently on some other threads,

Well, I don't really read the mechanics threads unless there's something I'm not sure about as my mind has pretty much absorbed all of the Gantz information I've gone through in the manga like a freakin' sponge.

I'm trying to look this up, but without chapter numbers, it's really hard to, just for future reference. The suits have always seemed to take a second to register the blow that finally disables them, IIRC. I went ahead and looked up all the stuff you were talking about, and it seems like Sakata never got hit by the sword to me; it looked like he used up all his suit% by dodging or something. Cherry definitely got hit in the arms, and Reika definitely got hit in the side (though it looked to me like she got hit with the flat of the blade), so it's definitely reasonable to think that swords might not go through the suits. I can think of a few examples, like the Buddha mission, where blades (although they were of alien origin) went through the suit without breaking it, though, so I would have to say maybe it should be up to the mod how to let katanas work with respect to suits.
Again about the suits; when the old man got cornered by those three dudes, he was able to take out one of their suits in the same amount of time it took them to take his out. This further bolsters the theory that the suit has a delay in breaking; I guess it still protects after being overstressed until the fluid actually leaks out.

To tell you the truth, I believe it depends on our agreeable mechanics verse Oku's vague mechanics. If our mechanics balance the roleplay, then I believe those are the mechanics we should stick with. In no way do I call our mechanics perfect, but in no way we can achieve that by changing something already decent for a theory that we are not even sure of as of yet. This is why I strongly urged mods and rpers to read the sites mechanics, because they work and are easy to understand and ARE approved for roleplay. Mod's were supposed to be allowed to decide trivial mechanics like what the controllers showed, how many weapons their are and where the weapons are located. Lets just not go overboard...the more we let the mods make up their mechanics, the more we have to work at to try and get them accepted by everyone else as well.
Because god forbid if mod goes and implements their own mechanics and gets a person killed who read the site's mechanics. Not to put anyone on blast, but I recall that happening in the past, in which related to multiple pages with back and forth arguing over the entire ordeal.
