Naruna was standing next to one of his comrades, smoking. They where in the middle of a peace-mission in Sudan patrolling a village. It was pure routine until one of them found a mine. It was one of the nasty fellows that was left behind and never removed. It was pure luck that the kids running around here everyday hadn't triggered it yet. But not his luck that was for sure.
(They are speaking Danish, but since none or at least very few of you understand it i did you the favor of translating it.)
"Are you done yet?"
"Shut your trap Daniel, this ain't as easy as 1-2-3"
Naruna was the 2nd youngest on the team, and by far the most reckless, but he was part of the family regardless. There where less than 150 people in the world with the privilege to call themselves "Jægersoldat", but he was one of them and dammed proud of it.
The guy currently messing with the mine was called "Rabbit" but his actual name was John. He was the bomb-specialist of the team, and one of Naruna's good friends, regardless of how they spoke to each other. Rabbit had done this since like before the dawn of time, so he knew what he was doing and Naruna had no doubts in his skills. After this they where going to do some house-searches to check that nobody where housing criminals or anything.
He took his time to look at the skies, while Rabbit did his thing. These things took time. Quite frankly Naruna would just have grabbed the nearest kid but the collar and used him to trigger the mine, but he was careful not to reveal that to anyone. Everyone one the team considered him the closest thing they had to a pacifist and he did everything he could to maintain that appearance.
"What do you say Daniel, red or black?"
"You all out of Zebra stripes? How unfortunate for us, i suppose we are all doomed now huh?"
"Red it is, thanks for your always helpful inputs"
"Anytime Rabbit"
Naruna took a look around and noticed something in the distance. He could not quite make out what it was, but it seemed to be a person, lying on the ground.
"Ill be right back".
He was only bringing his gun in case something should happen, but chances where that it was just one of the villagers who got dehydrated. It happens a lot around these parts and it was part of their responsibility to help them out.
Of course helping whoever was out there wasn't really his top priority.
When he approached the person, still lying on the ground he took a look around, and concluded that nobody was near him. He drew back his leg and kicked the person with all the strength he could muster, and landed a kick right in the ribs. At least one of them broke, but there was no response, the corpse just turned around and lay silent. No fun kicking them if they don't scream.
He went back to the place they found the mine, to find that Rabbit was not around. The mine however was still lying where they found it, with all his gear next to it. He decided that now was a good time to disarm his first real mine.
As he looked down in it, he quickly saw that there was loads of wires, but only one red and one black. Rabbit said black right? Now that he though about it, that must have been what he said, its only the red wire in movies. He cut over the black wire, and died on the spot.
