So, there's not much to do once you've posted in all the projects and have to sit around waiting for a few days. So, I figured why not start a discussion thread for Anime? First off, I'd like to discuss an old time classic. An Anime that centers around the dashing World Class Thief, Arsène Lupin III, and his companions as they go around stealing things that should be unstealable. Along the way there's a trail of Perverse comedy, slapstick antics, and kick ass mystery that'll blow your head off. If that doesn't even cook your Goose, know that this Anime has withstood the test of time, having been over 30 years old and it still has a strong fan base. But if you're still a stick in the mud, you can always rest assured there's plenty of nudity.

I got like three of the oh so many films out there. "The Legend of Gold Babylon", "Dead or Alive", and "To Hell with Nostradamus". Wish I could find "Lupin vs the Clone" But no such luck.

I've never watched it either... hell, I'm just now starting on Cowboy Bebop. For shame! T_T I've been meaning to watch Lupin for awhile because of the things I heard about it, though. I just need to finish up Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Mushishi, and Ghost Hound.

Lupin is great and all, but nothing beats Detective Conan. Besides, Kaito Kid is a way better thief.

Well I've recently been watching Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (Or "When They Cry") and I'm really liking it so far. A few others I've watched and was really fond of were Gurren Lagann, FLCL, Onepiece (in the process of watching) and Yu Yu Hakusho along with Dane. (Yu Yu Hakusho is one of my favorite animes of all time!) I'm not usually a fan of "Slice of life" anime though, and don't really like Lucky Star, Azumanga Daioh, or Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (if that IS the title)

I agree with Ronnie. I like Detective Conan. Plus I'm curious on that one Lupin vs Conan (Airs in March). Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, including as you get into the sequel. And agree with what Calcus likes.
Monster is a good classic (referring to old anime) (><)...

I've been meaning to watch Akira again. I think that may be my favorite anime movie of all time. Though, they're gonna destroy it with the American (Whitey) remake of it.

Higurashi is my shit! I tried to get KBell to watch it, but he didn't like the art, and that kept him from watching. I also tried to introduce it to Jpimpin. He on the otherhand was just too much of a pussy for the gore.
Monster was also mentioned? I thought it was pretty good, but I never finished it. I think I watch like 20-40 eps and had no clue it went up to about 70 eps!?
Right now I'm watching "To Aru Majutsu no Index" and various "slice of life" animes like School Days and Shuffle! I guess I'm just bored, but "To Aru Majutsu no Index" is keeping me entertained and I was hooked after the 1st episode.

Hmmm. Sounds like I should add Higurashi on my to-watch list, too. I thought it had some maniac chicks in there as well... Yandere at its finest? o.o
And now I just remembered that I ought to pick up Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou's OVAs, too. I really liked the manga.
/has a long list of stuff he needs to watch
On a side note, am I the only one who couldn't see why Code Geass was so popular? On most of the other forums I visit people just raved on and on about it till the end of the second season, and even a few friends insisted that I watch it. So I did, and at the end, all I could do was go, "meh." I mean, it was alright but it just felt like a Death Note ripoff to me... just that it had giant robots and stuff. Lelouch was Light Yagami, Schneizel was L... the plot wasn't exceptionally different, either. IMO anyways.

School Day ending SUCKS! The manga is different due to an accident that occurred in Japan (forgot what happened) and they made a special for the anime I heard. Shuffle! was alright. Monster might not be suited for everyone because it psychological type anime. Plus I never watched Akira. I've been spending my spare time on manga. I find it goes faster..
To keep you entertained, I would recommend Elfen Lied. Really awesome, but a little disappointing... Maybe... Also Rideback. I know at the beginning it might be boring (Believe me, I stopped watching it cuz that) but it really gets better (I continued a week later). Spiral Suiri no Kizuna for those that crave mystery (with action),

Many main stream animes imo arent ones to be watched. its just that everyone watches it and says OMG this is AWESOME and therefore makes you look at it like meh. I think main stream anime was good until about maybe 4-5 years ago when i feel it started to decline, now it just seems like hyped up series that only end up being mediocre at best. However there have been some good ones, although i can't think of any...

Um.. I somewhat know what your saying, and I agree on that part. Most anime I watch are either recommended or on the top list. And at the end of the day I'm like WTF. Can't do anything about wasted time. Rarely I find some good ones. Gantz is considered one of the good ones of course . That's the main reason I quited anime and went to manga... You can't forget everyone have their own preferences rite . These are my favorite anime, yet not listed on the top list... 1: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (and Kai) 2: Gantz 3: Code Geass - Hangyaku no Lelouch (and R2) Detective Conan is my all time favorite, but if I were to rank it, it would come around 5th place... But still I like this series...

Jpimpin, you're entitled to your own opinion, but I'd have to disagree w/ it wholeheartedly. Most mainstream animes are ones that are dubbed in america and the general feeling is that english dubs ruin anime. Certain emotions or expressions in Japanese aren't carried over when translated into English and some meaning is lost, making it very hard to successfully pull off dubs that aren't frowned upon. This is why I believe most mainstream anime is butchered. Though, don't get me wrong. There are some terrible animes out there that do get a lot of hype, but that's because sub-par animes are very easy to buy rights to. I try to avoid animes like that unless whatever it's about interests me, and that's VERY VERY rare. I seriously just think you need realize whether or not the person who's hyping up the anime is reliable or not. Ask yourself, Is this person an idiot? How much anime do they actually watch? And can I trust that what they like may be similar to what I like? I'm just tired of people saying, "good anime" is "meh" when the most they've experienced is "shit" that is introduced to them by unreliable sources. Not everyone on the mainstream knows wtf their talking about, but neither is everyone on the mainstream talking about nothing! Sometimes you've got to take risks and actually go out of your way to try something new. Sometimes you like what you watch and other times (maybe even most of the time) you won't, but shit happens. You'll get over it though, because when you actually do find something that you like it'll really inspire you in some way shape or form. Detective Conan is my all time favorite, but if I were to rank it, it would come around 5th place... But still I like this series... What episode you on? Edit: BTW, I like where this thread is going, and I think it's long overdue.

Ahh XenoD must be so proud of himself... after starting this long needed thread maybe we should change his nickname from "The Resident Stupid" to something slightly more respectable. Anyways, I've actually been thinking of watching Outlaw Star. Anybody recomend that? BTW, Might be a good idea to make a list of anime you've watched, then maybe it'll get people interested in certain things or remember a series they promised to watch. Or ask about a series they've been interested in. Anyways, My list comprises of:
Fully Watched:
DBZ Yu Yu Hakusho Gurren Lagann Akira (including manga) Gantz (including manga) FLCL Death Note (Dubs actually better than the sub... amazing!) Hellsing (same here!) Howls Moving Castle Spirited Away Princess Mononoke (I think that's how it's spelled)
In progress:
Ouran High School (with my little sister, episode 9) Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (episode 14) Onepiece (episode... um... I think 64 or something...) Bleach (episode 169 or something)
On Hiatus or stopped:
Naruto (episode... oh my god... I don't know... 300 and something...) Xenosaga the Anime (episode 5) PPGZ (episode 22... yes... I did... STOP LAUGHING DAMNIT!) Azumanga Daioh (episode 3) Inuyasha (episode 6) Ranma 1/2 (episode... something in season 5)
Interested:
Lupin the III Hellsing Manga and OVA's Code Geass Vampire Hunter D Persona 4 (JRPG) Hell Girl
JRPG's
FF 7, 8, 9, and 10 Xenosaga part 1 The World Ends With You (friggin amazing) Graffiti Kingdom (daimond in the rough/sleeper hit) Parasite Eve (partially, lost the game) Tales Of Symphonia (almost finished... god DAMN that game is long!) Front Mission 4 (partially, lost interest) Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2

I was going in the direction of anime getting all this hype and it ends up being sub par or you just can't see why it would be so hyped up. Personally that's why I don't like things that are really hyped up unless I've known about it for a while and feel its pretty good.

lol, Inuyasha, Bleach and Naruto are the only one's out right now that fit that category imo. Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (if that IS the title) Holy Shit, how could I have missed that statement!? That's one of the best animes in it's genre, and that's even considering how short it is. How much did you watch?!

also another anime that i'm really hyped this season is Dragon Ball Z Kai... that's right the remake of DBZ and as stupid as it may sound here's some info on that: >- While not in the above announcement, other reports are noting that the number of episodes is being reduced from 291 to approximately 100 >- The story will be developed speedily! -- "Kai" starts from the invasion of the Saiyans. This version will be re-edited to hew more closely to Akira Toriyama's original story, so the story's development will progress all the faster! >- Through digital processing, the image will be made vibrant!! -- All the grime, damage and noise remaining on the "Z" film will be removed! In HD, the image will be even clearer. > The all-too-brief and yet still somewhat triumphant return of FARMER WITH A SHOTGUN! >New content: - An overview of young Goku's growing up years (Dragonball, the pre-Z period) up until his triumph over Piccolo at the Tenkaichi-Budokai. >The original Japanese cast is re-grouping to re-voice the show (where available, and unfortunately not including those that have passed on, such as Hirotaka Suzuoki [Tenshinhan])
Questions:
>- The opening and ending songs will be completely renewed!! -- The opening and ending songs will together be made anew! Furthermore, in "Kai", the background music will be newly recorded. >And sadly (although that really all depends on how you look at things...) >- Goku's winky has disappeared!
