Gearhead seems to think that if you remove the bootnodes from the suit and shoot them with the X-gun these can be used like hand grenades. This never happened in the manga and the gantz mechanics links are down. So what do you all think? Would this work or not?

I would say no because its part of the suit ya know, and the suit should protect damage unless he were to shoot it constantly.

Well... I personally dont think he would be able to just rip one off the suit, they are what control the fluid inside so removing them would probably wreck the control system in the suit and render at least that part of the suit useless.
The vampires wreck suits by popping the four nodes around the head, so there's also a chance that the removal of nodes could destroy the entire suit.
The grenade thing out of the question though. If the node itself isnt wrecked by the removal process, a shot from the X-gun would be discharged like the suit would normally do. If it was damaged or doesnt act in the same way as the suit, it would simply explode like a normal chunk of material its size, wouldnt act like a grenade.

I agree with rylock. Having read the manga, I think that the only reason the vamps can disable the suits so easily is because the nodes they hit are probably strategic (almost like breaking your neck), and they already have super strength and speed. You'd probably need a gantz suit on to mustur the strength to effectively puncture one, even with a blade.
